Convert NAB CSV to QBO / QFX / OFX
NAB's personal Internet Banking help lists the export formats as a spreadsheet, a QIF file, or a PDF. It does not list QBO, QFX, or OFX. QuickBooks Desktop and Quicken Web Connect do not import QIF. Use the spreadsheet.
Export transaction history
Access your transaction history says you can view up to two years (731 days) of transactions. To export:
- Log in to NAB Internet Banking with your NAB ID and password.
- Open the Accounts menu and select Transaction history.
- Optionally sort a column, filter, or search.
- Select Export to export all or some of the transactions as a spreadsheet, a QIF file, or a PDF.
To view more than the first 30 days, NAB says to choose an alternative date range. The spreadsheet is the file to convert. NAB Connect, the business platform, is a different set of screens and is not covered here.
CSV columns
The source linked below does not publish the column headings in the file. After you download it, use the header row you actually see. In the converter, map a date, a description, and either one signed amount or separate money-in and money-out columns. The preview rewrites dates as YYYY-MM-DD so you can confirm the day and the month before you download.
Convert it
- Open the converter and drop in the CSV or Excel file. Excel (.xlsx or .xls) is fine.
- If the bank put your name or account number above the table, set the header row to the row that names the columns.
- Map the date, the description, and either one signed amount or separate paid-in and paid-out columns. Confirm the dates in the preview, which shows them as YYYY-MM-DD.
- Choose QBO for QuickBooks Desktop, QFX for Quicken, or OFX, and download.
Import the converted file
- QuickBooks Online
- QuickBooks Desktop (needs a .qbo file)
- Quicken for Windows or Mac (needs a .qfx file)
FAQ
Is the QIF file a Quicken Web Connect file?
No. Quicken says QIF will not work with Web Connect. Export the spreadsheet and convert it to QFX or QBO.
How far back can I go?
NAB says transaction history covers up to 731 days, and that the default view is 30 days until you pick another range.
The export is Excel, not CSV.
NAB says "spreadsheet". The converter reads xlsx and xls as well as CSV.
