Convert Monzo CSV to QBO / QFX / OFX

Monzo's help article lists PDF, CSV, and QIF. It does not list QBO, QFX, or OFX. QIF does not import as Quicken Web Connect or as QuickBooks Desktop Web Connect. Use the CSV.

Convert your file now: open the converter. It runs in your browser, your statement is never uploaded, and it's free up to 30 transactions per file.

Export from the app

Exporting your transactions says you can export all transactions, including Pots:

  1. Tap the three vertical dots on your card.
  2. Tap Bank statements.
  3. Choose the date range.
  4. Choose PDF, CSV, or QIF.

CSV columns

A Monzo staff reply on the CSV exports community topic (10 March 2020) listed the fields in the export at that time:

  • Transaction ID
  • Date
  • Time
  • Type
  • Name
  • Emoji
  • Category
  • Amount
  • Currency
  • Local amount
  • Local currency
  • Notes and #tags
  • Address
  • Receipt
  • Description

That post said Name is the merchant, pot, or contact name, and Type is the payment scheme (card payment, direct debit, and so on). Map Date, Name or Description, and Amount. The post is from 2020. If your header row has extra columns, map the ones you have. Do not add columns that are not in the file.

Convert it

  1. Open the converter and drop in the CSV or Excel file. Excel (.xlsx or .xls) is fine.
  2. If the bank put your name or account number above the table, set the header row to the row that names the columns.
  3. Map the date, the description, and either one signed amount or separate paid-in and paid-out columns. Confirm the dates in the preview, which shows them as YYYY-MM-DD.
  4. Choose QBO for QuickBooks Desktop, QFX for Quicken, or OFX, and download.

FAQ

Monzo offers QIF. Can Quicken open it?

Quicken says QIF will not work with Web Connect. Export CSV and convert it to QFX.

Which description column should I use?

The 2020 post describes Name as the readable merchant or payee, and Description as its own field. Prefer Name if both are present, and check the preview.

Are pot transfers included?

Monzo says the export includes Pots. You may want to leave pot transfers out before you import them into bookkeeping, or categorize them as transfers after import.
